Custom Categories

by Eric Barnes on February 11, 2009

This is the one must have module for 68 Classifieds. The custom category module allows you to create new template files for different categories. This is perfect if you have categories that are not really related and should have a different layout. For example horses and cars.

New in the latest version is the ability to hide the price for categories as well.

Requirements

  • 68 Classifieds V4.1.x

Instructions

Download the module and upload it to your modules directory. Next visit the administration and activate it.
Once you create a new template file you need to save it in the following folder:

modules/customcats/templates/cattemplates/

After you have uploaded it you will need to edit the specific category and add the field.

Also with this module installed when you edit a specific category you will have the option to hide the price for it.

  • I have installed the custom categories module in the "services" section of the Classifieds section of our site. I would like to edit the word Description to read "Business" and remove the image display option and view listings option to only be left with the field that displays the business details in the lowest level category. We have Services > then the different regions > then categories within those region > then listings within those categories. I want to input the Business name , address, city phone # and other info that might be available in the lowest level and not leave the option for the listing details. This custom category is only applied to my Services section. Can you direct me on how to edit the code to accomplish this.

    Hi Eric,

Your module works great as expected. I'm wondering if we could somehow pass the $ccnoprice category field to the search page to also hide the price range field for searching categories which don't have price fields.
I thought of maybe putting a condition on allowing the field to display if the $ccnoprice category field was set to hide in the admin / category setup page.
It seems a little annoying to see the price range field for a category that doesn't have a price field, but would not like to turn it off completly as other categories require it. The intent is to modify to suit both classified ads and directory listings.
Could you look into this or maybe point me in the right direction.
  • Hey Eric...

Can you give me a little insight on how this module works. I uploaded the folder into my modules directory. Then activated the module. I then went to a specific category and changed it to the NoPrice Template, then saved. Price still shows.

    What am I doing wrong?
  • Be sure you are viewing the category page and not searching or viewing the listing detail page.
