Using TextExpander for BB Code

September 25th, 2008

TextExpander is a great tool and I now use it daily. Actually I use it so often I don’t think I could live without it. :)

When I first started out I started creating snippets for common email reply’s. Thanks for contacting us, instructions for resetting a password, etc. That alone is worth the money to buy this app but I have since added lots more snippets that I use.

The first group of custom snippets I use is for our forums which uses vBulletin. Some common tasks on it is typing [quote], [code], [php], tags. It doesn’t take that long to write them out but typing ,[q is a whole lot quicker.

So I have bundled up the snippet group and added it as a download to hopefully benefit some of you. Keep in mind this is really basic and only includes a few tags. Mainly the ones that I use most.

Here is a list of the ones included:

,[q - [quote] [/quote]
,[c - [code] [/code]
,[b - [b] [/b]
,[p - [php] [/php]
,[l - [list] [*] [/list]

If you have any to add please pass them along.

Coda 1.5 is out!

August 28th, 2008

Just found out today that Coda from Panic is now out and ready for use. I have upgraded and so far so good. One of the great new features is built in SVN support. The only thing I couldn’t find is some advanced features like branching, tagging, etc.

I am still a textmate convert but it is getting closer to becoming my editor of choice.

Apps you love

August 14th, 2008

On Monday I found out 1Password included a new iPhone app to sync the passwords with your iPhone and I decided this would be a cool app for my phone. It is something I use constantly now on my mac.

In order to use the iPhone app I had to upgrade 1Password to a beta release which is not a big deal and something I do regularly. However this upgrade had a bug in it and caused all my passwords to disappear. Lets just say I was about to have a major freak out moment. So I contacted them and within the hour they responded with how to fix it. That is fantastic work for a beta version of a product.

Within this time I had one of those holy crap moments and realized just how much I use that little app. I want to send my thanks to the guys over at 1password for getting me up and running again so quick.

So how about you? Do you have any apps that you always use that you can’t live without?
